Sustainability efforts often rely on technical language and acronyms, which can make it difficult to communicate effectively with executives or cross-functional leaders. In complex organizations this can lead to misunderstandings or stalled progress. Add in shifting priorities and high-pressure decision-making, and it becomes even more important to communicate clearly and with persuasion. To move sustainability forward, we need to speak plainly, use actionable language, and master the art of storytelling. These skills help us connect with diverse audiences, influence decision-makers, and align sustainability goals with broader business objectives.

In the second session of our Leadership Webinar Series, we’ll focus on how storytelling can drive leadership buy-in—an essential skill for those adopting an enterprise leadership mindset. We’ll cover how to frame your message around mission-driven impact, tie it to key performance indicators (KPIs) and ESG reporting, and tailor your story to different audiences or reporting needs. These techniques support change management, strengthen organizational culture, and help demonstrate return on investment (ROI).

This two-part webinar series prepares attendees for the 2025 SBC Conference track, The Human Element: Culture, Leadership & Engagement for Sustainability, taking place on November 5th in La Crosse, WI.
