Nature Risk Is Financial Risk: A Practical TNFD Playbook for Business Resilience and Competitive Advantage

Hosted by the Sustainable Business Council along with the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point

Nature loss is no longer an environmental issue—it is a financial and operational risk. Water scarcity, biodiversity decline, and ecosystem disruption are already increasing costs, disrupting supply chains, and impacting asset values across industries. In many cases, these pressures are directly affecting margins, insurance exposure, and long-term enterprise value. At the same time, regulatory and investor expectations are shifting rapidly. Nature-related disclosure is becoming the new norm, with frameworks like TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures) aligning closely with emerging requirements and market expectations.

This informational session cuts through the noise and focuses on execution. Participants will learn how to use the TNFD LEAP approach (Locate, Evaluate, Assess, Prepare) to identify where their business depends on nature, quantify exposure to risk, and integrate those insights into real decisions—not reports. More importantly, the session shows how leading companies are moving beyond risk mitigation—using nature intelligence to improve efficiency, strengthen supply chains, unlock new value streams, and gain competitive advantage in a rapidly shifting market.

Participants will leave with:

  • A clear view of how nature-related risks translate into financial and operational exposure
  • A step-by-step method (TNFD LEAP) to identify and prioritize risk hotspots across operations and supply chains
  • A practical checklist to assess dependencies on water, land, and ecosystems
  • Immediate actions to integrate nature into risk management, ESG, and strategy
